LOCUS ESSE – TEXTE CURATORIAL

Dans un monde traversé par le flux incessant des images, des voix et des déplacements, la question de demeurer en un lieu retrouve une acuité singulière.

L’exposition Locus Esse — littéralement « être en un lieu » — propose une traversée artistique dessinant des lignes de force entre matière, perception et présence, invitant à la pleine présence, à l’écoute de l’instant-site de l’être.

À la Galerie 27 Concept, ce mois de janvier, nous vous convions à une exposition à travers les pratiques entrelacées de Nicolas Lefeuvre et Myriam de Lafforest. Distinctes par le médium et le geste, leurs œuvres partagent néanmoins une discipline de réduction, une attention à la forme essentielle, une sensibilité raffinée à l’espace. Car habiter un lieu, c’est aussi le laisser nous traverser. Il devient alors un seuil entre les dimensions du dedans et du dehors, entre le visible et l’indicible.

Les toiles abstraites de Nicolas Lefeuvre se déploient comme des territoires intérieurs : en plans lumineux, en registres minimaux, en croisements sensoriels. L’ombre et la lumière ddeviennent mémoire et champ d’expansion silencieuse. Ses peintures sont des « lieux » visuels à habiter et à contempler. Leur minimalisme est une invitation à s’installer à l’intérieur du champ pictural pour y trouver son propre espace de narration.

Chez Myriam de Lafforest, la sculpture figurative s’enracine dans la densité du corps, prenant la forme de mouvements extérieurs et de regards intérieurs : figurativité réduite, minimalisme des volumes, équilibre entre vide et plein.

Ainsi, leurs travaux ne se contentent pas de représenter ou de figurer : ils sculptent une architecture de la présence, de la lenteur et du lieu d’être.

Ils interrogent : Que se passe-t-il quand on habite une œuvre ? Quelle empreinte ce lieu nous laisse-t-il, et quelle empreinte y déposons-nous ?

NICOLAS LEFEUVRE

LOCUS ESSE, une exposition qui marque un temps fort du parcours de Nicolas Lefeuvre.

Cette exposition présente une rétrospective de vingt œuvres inédites issues des séries Landscapes, Self Archeology, et introduit une nouvelle série inédite : Faire la Nuit.

▶️ « FAIRE LA NUIT » prolonge l’Abstraction comme territoire d’expérience : un espace où les formes cessent de représenter des lieux pour devenir présences.

Au cœur de cette pratique se tient la nuit—non comme thème, mais comme matière première, comme champ intérieur. « Faire la nuit », c’est tenter de rendre visible un phénomène qui ne se livre jamais frontalement : une immersion, un souffle, une densité qui efface les contours pour révéler une autre clarté.

La nuit agit ici comme un opérateur de déplacement : elle dissout les repères, ouvre un passage vers un imaginaire archaïque fait de peurs, de promesses et de métamorphoses. Dans ces peintures, elle devient un état, un seuil où les perceptions s’aiguisent, où les couleurs gagnent en intensité, où le silence devient texture. L’abstraction permet d’en restituer la mobilité intérieure, la vibration.

Au centre du geste pictural surgit la question du Sacré—non religieux, mais comme qualité du regard. La peinture devient un lieu de résonance, un espace qui demande une attention presque rituelle. Le sacré s’incarne dans la simplicité du geste, dans les tensions chromatiques, dans ces masses silencieuses de couleur qui deviennent des « icônes sans visage ». L’œuvre cherche alors l’intensité d’une présence qui appelle l’intériorité du regardeur.

S’y ajoute une dimension synesthésique : ces tableaux évoquent la pluralité sensorielle de la nuit—ce que l’on voit, entend, ressent. La nuit est souffle, vibration, timbre. La couleur devient son, la lumière rythme, l’espace pictural une chambre de résonance où les perceptions se croisent.

« Faire la nuit », c’est créer un espace intérieur partagé, où s’unissent la puissance du Sacré et les interférences sensorielles, un lieu où l’image n’est plus représentation mais action.

Ce sont des peintures-nuits : des seuils, des intensités, des dérives perceptives. Une nuit vivante, matière spirituelle, ouvrant un autre rapport au visible—fait de silence, d’écoute, d’abandon et de ressenti.

BIO – NICOLAS LEFEUVRE

Nicolas Lefeuvre est un artiste français dont la carrière s’inscrit dans une dynamique internationale. Peintre expressionniste abstrait, il explore la matière, la lumière et le geste comme langages de l’intériorité.

Né en 1975, il étudie aux Beaux-Arts de Rennes, puis obtient son diplôme de l’École Camondo à Paris en design et architecture. La découverte, dans les années 1990, de l’œuvre de Pierre Soulages agit comme un catalyseur : dès lors, Nicolas Lefeuvre sait qu’il sera peintre.

Installé pendant sept ans à Singapour, il y fonde un studio de design et un label de musique en Chine, tout en peignant et en collaborant avec de grandes maisons de luxe internationales. Il rejoint ensuite CHANEL, où il occupe le poste de directeur artistique, d’abord à Singapour, puis au Japon et à Hong Kong.

En 2016, il quitte l’Asie et CHANEL pour se consacrer entièrement à sa vocation picturale. Aujourd’hui basé à Lisbonne, il expose dans de nombreuses foires (BRAFA, PAD Design & Art Paris, Art Taipei, Art Paris, Biennale Paris – Grand Palais, KIAF Seoul et Daegu Art Fair) et galeries internationales, et ses œuvres font partie de collections privées et institutionelles à travers le monde.

▶️ Son œuvre, abstraite, graphique et contemplative, se distingue par une intensité expressive rare. Elle traduit un univers intérieur riche d’expériences, de sensations et de rêves, que Nicolas Lefeuvre restitue à travers des jeux subtils de transparence et de lumière, invitant le regard à la méditation et au voyage.

▶️ Sa démarche artistique tient compte du contexte local et des mémoires collectives et environnementales avec une recherche sur les matières recyclées telles que le denim et les matières minérales.

▶️ L’œuvre murale (300 x 650 cm) commissionnée par la Fondation BNP Paribas met en lumière cette dimension interactive et monumentale de son travail.

Chez Myriam de Lafforest, la sculpture s’enracine dans la densité du corps, prenant la forme de mouvements extérieurs et de regards intérieurs : figurativité réduite, minimalisme des volumes, équilibre entre vides et pleins .

D’Emergence à Instant d’Eternité, chaque sculpture exprime une façon de rassembler sa force de vie en opposant le temps lent de l’élaboration du travail du bronze, au temps vigoureux du mouvement saisi dans l’instant.

Dans LOCUS ESSE, ses oeuvres participent à ressentir le lieu autrement, en présence et en symbiose avec l’environnement.

BIO – MYRIAM DE LAFFOREST

Myriam de Lafforest est sculptrice et peintre.

Artiste inspirée et inspirante, globe-trotteuse d’un monde intérieur, elle nous guide volontiers vers un ailleurs emprunt d’humanité, de sensibilité, de mystère, de silence et d’émotions.

Les titres évocateurs de ses œuvres — Humilité, Élévation, Conversion, Adoration… — nous incitent à réfléchir à la subtilité de notre Être et à cette quête intérieure qui nous anime, profonde, authentique, transcendante.

Selon Myriam, l’art est langage d’un monde transformant, il est un pont entre le vécu et l’Etre. Il ouvre la porte d’un monde subtil, celui des émotions, de l’intuition, de la mémoire gravée de l’artiste mais aussi du collectif de l’espèce humaine. Il est langage universel porteur de sens. L’esprit descend dans la matière : dans l’argile, dans les pigments. Puis il prend forme sous ses mains, qui deviennent le canal du souffle créateur. Souvent, l’acte créatif précède même la conscience de sa signification.

Inspirée dès son plus jeune âge par Camille Claudel, par Michel-Ange, sculpteur de l’espérance, et formée par Salvador Mañosa, son maître sculpteur catalan dont elle reçoit des techniques uniques, Myriam de Lafforest forge une œuvre à la fois puissante et lumineuse.

Ses créations se distinguent par leur grâce aérienne et une maîtrise technique unanimement saluée.

“METAPHORE” – MYRIAM DE LAFFOREST SOLO ART EXHIBITION (DEC 5-18)

For this unprecedented exhibition in Paris, Myriam de Lafforest celebrates twenty-five years of creation and unveils for the first time her pictorial work alongside her emblematic sculptures.

Entitled MÉTAPHORE, this exhibition marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s journey: a dialogue between earth and canvas, between matter and color, between incarnation and dream.

Renowned for her figurative bronze sculptures, imbued with both sensual and spiritual intensity, Myriam de Lafforest now extends this language into painting — which she approaches as a surreal and symbolic writing, born from the depths of dream and the unconscious.

Her works weave a bridge between the visible and the invisible, between experience and being, in a continuity where life takes form alternately in earth and in color.

In this spirit, Clémentine de Forton Gallery, representing the artist, and Xavier Hochet, senior advisor and collector, present together MÉTAPHORE at PAL Project, in the heart of Paris’s 7th arrondissement, from December 5 to 18, 2025.
An exhibition that celebrates the return to an embodied sculpture, to a painting of the soul.

Metaphor of a mirrored gaze? Metaphor of a dreamlike and symbolic language?

The gaze runs through all of Myriam de Lafforest’s work.
It is never decorative: it questions, pierces, reveals.
In her sculptures as in her paintings, it acts as a metaphor for an inner mirror and becomes the guiding thread of a body of work that probes consciousness — not that of the intellect, but of the living, the breath.
Her figures seem to come from elsewhere: they look at us as much as we look at them.
Something within us is seen, grasped, touched.

In Myriam’s universe, sculpture and painting extend one another.
Her sculptures are born from a block of clay, slowly, until the face, the movement, the woman, the pair, or the child emerge from the silence of matter to reach the third dimension.

This verticality of body and soul finds its echo in painting.
The canvas becomes a space of interiority — a metaphorical writing of the unconscious, of dream, and of symbols.
Forms intertwine like fragments of reverie, revealing what lies beneath.
Myriam de Lafforest stands within a humanist and existential lineage, where matter becomes a passage between body and spirit.
Her work does not denounce — it elevates, opens, connects.

In this sense, MÉTAPHORE is not merely an exhibition, but an experience:
a journey where sculpture and painting, matter and dream, respond to one another in a shared movement of consciousness.

This exhibition is an experience, a dialogue between art and literature
The artworks resonate with the words of Marguerite Yourcenar:

“I have often thought that the most profound sensation of life is that of rest within
movement, of time suspended in duration.” (Memoirs of Hadrian)

This experience of eternity, revelation, and the sacred runs through the works of Christian Bobin, Baudelaire, Leonard Cohen… writers who have explored this suspension as a language of the soul.

Synonymous with slowness, lightness, transition, and silence, this exhibition proposes a
poetic experience supported by literary quotations that give voice to these silent works of striking aesthetic intensity.

In this suspended movement, art becomes the privileged medium of our gaze, our emotion, and our desire — not as a halt, but as a particular state of consciousness where the present moment opens onto infinity.

A Sensory Experience of the Suspended Moment

In the luminous intimacy of the gallery, sculptures, photographs, and paintings orchestrate an exceptional moment that escapes the ordinary flow of time. Time falls silent.
Colored veils float, ink gestures breathe, bronze bodies leap, geometric forms gravitate.
In perfect balance, this suspended moment reveals a threshold where matter transforms into light.

“Une part de moi contient ces femmes, qui ont fait voeu de silence et vivent une vie pieuse, tournée vers la prière et la méditation, dans un cloitre reculé, au milieu d’une nature verdoyante.
Pas de cri, pas de crissement, pas de moteur, pas de tintamarre d’egos en mal d’existence. Des tâches simples, répétitives dont le seul tempo marque le rythme des jours et des nuits. Une part de moi vit dans ces bois sombres et profonds, où une nature antique s’épanouie sans entrave, loin du tumulte des hommes.
Dans ces forêts, dans ces cellules tranquilles, l’âme renoue avec l’éternité qui l’a vue naître.
Débarrassé du brouhaha de la ville, le chant de l’oiseau est à nouveau audible. Libéré des injonctions en pagaille, le temps redevient relatif. En ralentissant soudain, la main qui se lève vers l’objet perçoit les particules d’air traversées. L’âme peut-être âme, à nouveau.
De ces forêts, de ces cellules, nulle trace dans les labyrinthes de nos villes. Mais de ces oeuvres ici rassemblées, en Suspension, émane quelque chose de ces forêts anciennes, qui force le silence et convoque l’éternité.”

Curator Clémentine de Forton is pleased to present the works of three contemporary French artists, Benjamin Deroche, Myriam de Lafforest, and Nicolas Lefeuvre, at the upcoming exhibition “ILLUMINATION.”

The exhibition will be held from September 19 to 28, during the vibrant “Barcelona Gallery Weekend,” at the Patricia Canceló Art Gallery, located at 82, C. d’Enric Granados, in the Eixample district of Barcelona (08008). It will feature over twenty works, being exhibited in Barcelona for the first time, inviting visitors on a luminous sensory journey.

The exhibition offers a cross-dialogue between the worlds of Benjamin Deroche, a photographer, Myriam de Lafforest, a sculptor, and Nicolas Lefeuvre, a painter, all enhanced by texts from great writers and truth-seekers. Three artists guided by the path of emotions, in search of an Illumination.

An Illumination that aims to be multifaceted. The illumination that reveals truth. The illumination that brings forth clarity, a sudden inspiration. The illumination that uncovers a hidden treasure.

For Benjamin Deroche, the Illumination of discovery invites us on a poetic journey following vintage photographs from the early 20th century found in an old Vuitton travel trunk. Images sublimated with gold, paying homage to an unknown explorer, to the hidden treasures of the depths.

For Myriam de Lafforest, the Illumination of the spirit allows the sensitive and the intimacy of the human soul to emerge with sincerity. “The more I sculpt, the more I understand Humanity; the energy of the work precedes my consciousness.”

For Nicolas Lefeuvre, the illumination of solar outburst reveals the beauty of shadow. Unaltered serenity. Paintings that are listened to like a film, with a soundtrack. A praise to contemplation.

In all three artists, we find the desire to achieve an illumination of the soul and to share it through the power of their expression. The intelligence of the material, the gold powder that revives memories, the earth and bronze patina that anchor, powerfully and delicately sublimating the luminous journey we are invited to share.

Artist: Benjamin Deroche

The work of Benjamin Deroche is multifaceted, encompassing both photography and painting. In this specific series of black-and-white photographs from the 1930s, enhanced with gold and inspired by the adventures of Alexandra David Néel, he shares what drives him: nature, the sacred, travel, and poetry.

“After purchasing an old Vuitton travel trunk during a trip abroad, I discovered that its lower third had a double bottom that wasn’t original. Inside, I found a jumble of Kodacolor negatives and black-and-white contact prints, a few boxes filled with envelopes from France and the USA, love notes, a travel journal, postcards, and photographs from South Africa and Tibet, along with a few objects. I organized the documents, developed and scanned the negatives I could salvage, and decided to create a kind of inventory as a tribute to its previous owner, a certain Mrs. B., who had apparently acquired this trunk around the 1930s to accompany her travels.

This series should be viewed as a sort of catalog raisonné, a poetic tribute to this woman unknown to me, who stayed with her trunk in places like the Ritz in Paris and New York, on a transatlantic ship, in South Sudan, Bombay, Basra, Mosul, Maputo, on the Tibetan plateau, or on a farm in Colorado’s Smith Valley.”

Benjamin Deroche lives and works in France. He holds a doctorate in visual semiotics and is an associate artist at the Bebest laboratory, CNRS. His works are part of numerous private and public collections and have been exhibited internationally as well as at specialized contemporary art fairs such as FIAC, Paris Photo, Art Paris, Arts Elysées, and Mac 2000.

Myriam de Lafforest’s sculptures embody the power of a surge where strength marries delicacy through an impulsive movement that transcends the spirit. Humanity plays the central role in her sculptures, which she refers to as “Metaphors of Life.”

The titles of her works, such as “IMPULSION,” “CONVERSION,” “FUSION,” “ÉLAN,” “CES ÂMES,” and “INTUITION,” invite us to reflect on the subtlety of our being and our quest for a higher, deeper, more authentic light.

The dance of the bodies represents an upward movement toward the sacred, a particularly important dimension for Myriam, an inspiring and inspired artist who gladly guides us toward Illumination.

The spirit descends into matter, into the earth, and then takes form through her hands to elevate us. Myriam speaks of the artist’s role: “The artist seeks growth, the elevation of the soul, and takes with them those who love their works.”

As K. Jung said, “When I do not know, I let my hand guide me.” This is how Myriam allows herself to be guided by her imagination, without preconceived ideas. Her work expresses lightness and detachment within conscious action.

Within the circle, the person or persons are attached at only one point, giving the impression of incredible lightness—a symbol of harmony and completeness.

Her movement gracefully and agilely expresses the artist’s spiritual quest between heaven and earth, grounding and detachment. A message of love and completeness for Life.

Myriam de Lafforest grew up in a family of artists and early on understood the importance of art in her life, whether playing piano and flute at the conservatory or drawing with charcoal. Settling in Spain, she met Salvador Mañosa, a renowned Catalan sculptor, who became her mentor. He taught her his modeling technique over several years, with a deep desire to pass on his knowledge to his sole student.

Nicolas Lefeuvre’s work is a journey between East and West, an exploration narrative, a film with a soundtrack. The artist offers us a unique, graphic language, an evocation of the intimate imbued with Eastern cultures—China, Japan, Southeast Asia—territories where Nicolas lived for nearly two decades.

On paper, Nicolas Lefeuvre delicately works with Chinese indigo ink and Japanese gold powder, allowing them to flow and meet, creating landscapes in these plays of texture and transparency. The gold, the light, brings a contrast to the subtlety of the ink and paper, giving the works a strong presence. A unique elegance. Haute couture. It reminds him of his years spent as Asia-Pacific Artistic Director at Chanel.

Power and delicacy blend in his refined compositions.

The echo of travel is essential in the artist’s creative process, particularly in the materials he uses: Japanese getas, factory rolls, Chinese indigo pigments, Japanese gold powder, Portuguese fabrics and pearls… but also as themes of inspiration: the blue hour, calligraphy, the sea.

Memory distills emotions.

Abstraction is a space where everything is possible, where the senses intertwine—you see the music, listen to the light, touch the story. This is called freedom, and Nicolas Lefeuvre’s art is intensely infused with it.

Hosted in the iconic Castell d’Emporda, a jewel of the Costa Brava where many lovers come to celebrate their union, the exhibition will feature the artistic union of Myriam de Lafforest and Nicolas Lefeuvre. “Of Stone, Gold, and Bronze” invites visitors on a multidimensional introspective journey. A celebration of art and history. A contemplation of time.

Curator Clémentine de Forton will, for the first time in Spain, present the work of the two internationally established French artists, at the splendid Castell d’Emporda. This marks an exclusive premiere in Spain!

Why “From Stone, Bronze and Gold”?

The exhibition “Of Stone, Gold, and Bronze” celebrates the convergence of three noble materials—stone, gold, and bronze—transformed into sublime artistic expressions in an alchemical research of absolute.

Myriam de Lafforest’s bronzes echo with Nicolas’s ink and gold powder paintings within the majestic confines of the 14th-century stone castle, a silent witness to the passage of time. The fluidity of Japanese ink floating on paper, and the expressiveness of the bodily sculptures, contribute to an exploration of life’s movement through the dimensions of our being and an invitation to live poetically. The castle enchants with its breathtaking view over the region’s heights, while their art inspires us to elevate to the splendor of life, to make a journey from heart to heart. A supreme union.

Nicolas delves into his 18 years memories spent in Asia, where he worked as Creative Director at Chanel, and the lights of his newly adopted country, Portugal. His abstract paintings made of Chinese ink and Japanese gold powder evoke kimonos, oceanic depths, inhabited skies, and always that light emanating from gold that illuminates and propels. His paintings capture light and reflect it, lighting up the castle’s ancient walls with an almost divine glow. The use of gold, a material laden with history and symbolism, adds a spiritual and transcendental dimension, evoking the grandeur and mystique of past eras.

Myriam, passionate about humanity, represents it in its endless quest for Truth and Ascension, midst its doubts and existential questions. The movement of bodies and the intensity of gazes express a vibrant tactile sensuality. She sculpts by caressing the earth with her palms as if to spiritually awaken humanity.

The castle, with its robust stone walls and imposing tower, provides a spectacular backdrop for this exhibition.

La exposición “De Piedra, Oro y Bronce” celebra la convergencia de tres materiales nobles—piedra, oro y bronce—transformados en sublimes expresiones artísticas en una investigación alquímica del absoluto.

Los bronces de Myriam de Lafforest resuenan con las pinturas de tinta y polvo de oro de Nicolas dentro de los majestuosos confines del castillo de piedra del siglo XIV, un testigo silencioso del paso del tiempo. La fluidez de la tinta japonesa sobre el papel y la expresividad de las esculturas corporales contribuyen a una exploración del movimiento de la vida a través de las dimensiones de nuestro ser y una invitación a vivir poéticamente. El castillo encanta con su vista impresionante sobre las alturas de la región, mientras que su arte nos inspira a elevarnos a la esplendor de la vida, a hacer un viaje de corazón a corazón. Nicolas se sumerge en sus 18 años de recuerdos pasados en Asia, donde trabajó como Director Creativo en Chanel, y las luces de su nuevo país adoptivo, Portugal. Sus pinturas abstractas hechas con tinta china y polvo de oro japonés evocan kimonos, profundidades oceánicas, cielos habitados, y siempre esa luz que emana del oro que ilumina y propulsa. Sus pinturas capturan la luz y la reflejan, iluminando las antiguas paredes del castillo con un resplandor casi divino. El uso del oro, un material cargado de historia y simbolismo, añade una dimensión espiritual y trascendental, evocando la grandeza y el misticismo de épocas pasadas.

Myriam, apasionada por la humanidad, la representa en su interminable búsqueda de la Verdad y la Ascensión, en medio de sus dudas y preguntas existenciales. El movimiento de los cuerpos y la intensidad de las miradas expresan una sensualidad táctil vibrante. Ella esculpe acariciando la tierra con sus palmas como si quisiera despertar espiritualmente a la humanidad.

The exhibition offers a juxtaposition of the universes of Béatrice Wolff and Myriam de Lafforest. Two artists guided by the path of emotions, in search of an ‘Elsewhere’.

An ‘Elsewhere’ that is plural. An ‘Elsewhere’ like an exalting refuge that nourishes the spirit while liberating it.

For Béatrice Wolff, the ‘Elsewhere’ of travel, that of the richness of distant horizons, of the impregnation of the senses: Colors, fragrances, shapes leave their imprints, powerful and intangible sources of inspiration. A resurgence of sensations.

For Myriam de Lafforest, the ‘Elsewhere’ of the mind, which transcends the corners of thought and allows the invisible to emerge. An abandonment that allows the sensitive to take flight. The intimate is revealed with sincerity.

In both artists, there is this desire to access the ‘Elsewhere’ through the power of expression. Delicacy and strength merge to create an intense poetic language. The work of the material is essential, the very quintessence of the origin of creation. Myriam uses earth and bronze to shape the strength of the soul, while Béatrice explores the texture of papers and the depth of colors to give life to memories.

A plural ‘Elsewhere’ that envelops us, elevates us in an ideal of absolute.

• Katia Deddé graduated in Art History and Museum Studies from the Ecole du Louvre. She has been working in the art field for 20 years, specializing particularly in contemporary art. As a writer and coordinator for renowned art magazines such as Beaux Arts Magazine and Museart, as well as being involved in significant cultural projects with the Wilmotte et Associés agency, she has closely followed contemporary artists and their work for years, witnessing their evolution. Over time, she have built strong and expert networks, enriching relationships that are invaluable today.
